Building for the future
Every new development has an impact. At Nineyards, we have committed ourselves to making sure that the consequences of our actions are as positive as we can make them. We are actively striving to minimise our immediate and long-term effects on the environment while maximising the benefit we can bring to our residents and the people and businesses in our local area.
Encouraging Localism.
We believe that the need to minimise individual carbon footprints and the desire to achieve a more equitable work-life balance – coupled with a widespread increase in home and flexible working practices – means that people will want to spend more time in their suburban neighbourhoods. The benefits of this will hopefully include greater personal wellbeing and improved local economic prosperity.
As a dynamic environment – where interactions and synergies between local residents, businesses and community groups are actively encouraged – we think that Nineyards is perfectly positioned to lead this positive social trend.
Building Design.
BREEAM is the world’s leading environmental, social and economic sustainability performance assessment method for buildings. Nineyards’ design is rated Excellent by BREEAM standards for its reduced carbon emissions, low environmental impact, adaption to climate change, ecological value and biodiversity protection.
Transport.
Nineyards will be a ‘no cars’ development. Instead, a fleet of bookable communal bikes and secure storage for hundreds more will encourage residents to cycle instead of drive.
Nineyards’ proximity to local bus and rail terminals will also mean that commuting on public transport will be easy and convenient.
Energy Efficiency.
100% of the residential accommodation will be run with sustainably sourced electricity, provided from UK regulated Green energy providers.
On site, electricity generated by 100m2 of rooftop photovoltaic solar panels and high specification insulation will help to make Nineyards efficient to run and reduce the development’s carbon footprint.
Waste & Water.
All waste from residents’ rooms, communal spaces and the commercial operations on the ground floor will be segregated for recycling.
All roofs employ SUDS blue roofs, slowing down the release of rainwater into the local drainage system and helping to prevent flooding and storm surges.
Biodiversity.
All roofs will have a living green roof layer; all terraces and roof gardens will include appropriate planting; and there will be Nineyards’ honeybees living in an apiary on the roof.
